Hanna Instruments offers a wide variety of pH electrodes designed for a variety of applications. The type of glass used, body material, type of junction, type of reference cell and electrolyte are some of the important factors in design.

The HI5313 is a half-cell reference electrode with PEI body, single ceramic junction, and gel stabilized electrolyte.

PEI plastic body

The body of the HI5313 is made of polyetherimide (PEI) plastic. The PEI body is suitable for a wide range of applications and is highly durable. The guard around the spherical glass tip reduces the possibility of breakage due to impact or dropping. PEI is a high quality plastic that is resistant to many harsh chemicals.

Single ceramic joint

The external junction, also known as the salt bridge, is an essential component of the circuit. The movement of ions must flow through the junction for a stable value. The external reference has a single ceramic frit. The ceramic is a porous material that can be easily fused to the glass body and has a similar expansion coefficient. A single ceramic junction has a flow rate of 15-20 µl/hour. Other types of junctions are available with higher flow rates and made of different materials.

Connect 4mm

The HI5313 uses a 4mm banana connector. This connector is universal and can be used on any pH meter that has a female BNC probe input. Other connectors include BNC, DIN, screw type, T-type, and 3.5mm. Each meter typically has a unique connector and cannot be interchanged.
